BCMM A3Process Redesign is the core of business process re-engineering: a specific modeling technique, called IDEF0, is used to break down each step of the process into activities, while keeping track of input, output, rules and enablers. Each of these granular elements will then be assessed, remodelled and (possibly) re-used to build up the “to-be” process map.

This phase can indeed be divided into understanding the “as is” process and designing the “to be” process. The existing process (or practice) is documented in order to map what actually happens, to facilitate the identification of the required improvements and to manage perceptions. The future process model is designed to meet the goals and accomplish the process vision as defined in the Transformation Plan.
A detailed Operation Plan for developing and implementing the business change program is the output of the feasibility study. This outcome will be achieved via the following 5 steps:

  • Perform “as-is” analysis
  • Identify improvement priorities &“quick wins”
  • Create “to-be” models
  • Demonstrate & validate renewed process
  • Develop detailed business change plan

As an intermediate output, it is worth mentioning “quick wins”. These are easy-to-implement suggestions that are usually identified during the “as is” analysis. The implementation of quick wins can often deliver substantial benefits to the business.
